It is shown that combined X-ray, optical, and gamma surveys make it possible to map out the chemical composition of the lunar surface with a spatial resolution available to optics and a reliability characteristic of gamma- and X-ray measurements. The relationship between the optical characteristics and the chemical and mineralogical properties of the lunar surface rock is studied. Advantages and disadvantages of the present method are discussed.
