A technique for computing the Legendre functions which arise in the theory of propagation of ELF radio waves in the earth-ionosphere duct is presented. Four different representations of the Legendre functions are given in terms of hypergeometric series. The technique is shown to provide high precision using a much small number of terms than that required by alternative methods.
