The chemical, physical, and optical properties of various materials which are included in the family of possible cometary analogs are discussed. These were produced in laboratory conditions using different techniques, and some of them were exposed to ion-bombardment processing. A comparison between laboratory data and observations of comets is proposed in order to infer useful information about the actual composition of comets.
