We present results from a detailed imaging and spectroscopic analysis of several S0 and early-type spiral galaxies which reveals that their (photometric) bulges consist of at least two distinct stellar components. The first (and most luminous) component is a flattened, disklike structure whose kinematics are dominated by rotation; the second is a rounder, kinematically hot structure more like a traditional bulge. Thus, these galaxies harbor both disky pseudobulges and classical bulges. We speculate that for galaxies with composite bulges like these, the central supermassive black hole may correlate with the classical bulge component only, and not with the pseudobulge.
We also present preliminary results from a program aimed at measuring black hole masses in pseudobulges and low-mass classical bulges, using stellar kinematics obtained with near-IR integral field spectrograph SINFONI on the VLT, which we will use to test whether black holes correlate better with classical bulges or with pseudobulges.
