CMS1 is one of the four experiments for the proton proton collider LHC3. The tracks of the charged particles that originate from the collision of the proton bunches will be measured in the silicon strip tracker. The knowledge about the position of each of its detector modules is crucial for the performance of the tracker. In CMS the alignment of the tracker will be done in two steps. The first one uses the internal laser alignment system of the tracker ensuring reasonable data taking. In the second step the position of all detector modules will be found using the track information in the data storage.
