The electromagnetic calorimeter that is under construction for CMS experiment at the LHC is one of the most challenging crystal calorimeters ever built. It will consist of 80,000 lead tungstate crystals that will have to operate reliably in a high radiation environment with very high data taking rates over a period of at least 10 years. We will report on the current status and the plans for the construction.
