This book, which is intended to be a manual for students and researchers, is divided into four main sections: a) history of the concept of atom; b) foundations of atomic physics, quantum mechanics and spectroscopy; c) foundations of nuclear physics; d) foundations of particle physics and physical cosmology. Along the text the discussion concerning atomic, nuclear and sub nuclear physics, is often accompanied with several subjects related to astrophysics. It is shown how the micro and macro worlds are strictly related.
