Detailed spectrophotometry of the pyroxene first band profile in the 700-1050 nm region of 4 Vesta was conducted during three nights in January and February, 1988. The observations show that the band varies with asteroid rotation, with the amplitude of the intensity variations reaching 6-8 percent. The maximum of the band depth does not coincide with the extrema of the visual light curve. Estimates are obtained for the pyroxene spot position, which is at least 30 degrees from the equator in the asteroid's southern hemisphere. The diameter of the spot is between 20 and 40 degrees. It is suggested that the spot is a crater feature with an increased calcium content.
