Pupil functions which can be used to obtain the maximum energy
concentration in the center of a geometric image of a luminous point are
found. Consideration is given to the problem of apodization associated
with an increase in resolution. It is found that, for pupil functions
having a constant sign, the increase in resolution does not exceed 1.6.
