We propose to conduct a fundamental census of X-ray emission from stars in Orion and NGC 2264 for which we have a wealth of supporting multi-wavelength data. This will allow us to investigate a wide variety of scientific questions. The most important scientific goal of this study is investigating the relationship between age, rotation, and X-ray activity for late-type stars ranging in age from ~1-10 Myr. Understanding the X-ray environment of young stars and how rotation is related to X-ray flux has direct implications for the chemical and dynamical evolution of protoplanetary disks, and, consequently, for planet formation.
