The absolute value of the differential cross section for the 16O(t, p)18O (g.s.) reaction is calculated in the distorted wave approximation using Ohmura's hard-core wave function to describe the internal motion of the nucleons in the triton. A reasonable agreement with the observed value of the cross section is obtained while reproducing at the same time the observed binding energy and the size of the triton. Further, an explanation is offered for the equality of the absolute cross sections of the (p, t) and (p, 3He) reactions leading to analogue isobaric states, apart from factors depending on momentum and isospin transfer, in spite of a considerable difference in the rms charge radii of the triton and 3He.
