Scientific paper

The paper describes a 40/70/120 cm Schmidt telescope which will be installed at Ouda, 50 km southeast of Osaka. The telescope, built in 1972 and originally installed in Fukuchiyama, is characterized by a vignetting field which is much wider (7.1 deg) than most Schmidt telescopes of this type. The telescope has quasi-Cassegrain as well as Schmidt capabilities. The optical and mechanical systems are explained, and the results of some test observations are presented. A plate holder was constructed in which photographic plates are bent in contact with the spherical surface whose radius of curvature is 120 cm.
