Rocket and satellite borne electron accelerators are utilized for conducting 'controlled' simulation studies of the processes in the upper atmosphere and in the magnetosphere. Investigations of the 'natural' processes in space are conducted by this method as well as basic studies of the interaction between beams of fast electrons and the plasma environment. Highlights from these studies and some of the experimental difficulties are discussed.
