Rpcs, Rate Capability
Scientific paper
The ATLAS RPCs with 2 mm gas gap were successfully tested at rates as high as 1.0 kHz/cm2. The counting rate capability decreases with the operating current, which is proportional to the charge delivered in the gas at each count of the detector. In this paper preliminary results are presented on the performances of small size RPC prototype, using a newly designed front-end circuit. A relevant improvement was achieved: a good, stable efficiency working point was found with average delivered charge per count almost one order of magnitude smaller than in the ATLAS RPCs.
