On June 3, 1995, a tektite was found in Houston Co., GA. This was significant as this find location extends the western boundary of the Georgia tektite strewn field by at least 10 km. This thumb nail sized specimen weighed 1.612 g and measured 19 x 15 x 5 mm. The find site was a gravel quarry located at longitude 83 degrees 33.'8 W. and latitude 32 degrees 29.'3 N. at an elevation of 120 m. This location is on the U.S.G.S. 7.'5 Hayneville, GA. 1973 quadrangle. This was the first tektite found in Houston Co.
