A systematic method for isolating small concentrations of kerogen is
described and applied to sulfide ore samples from Mount Isa and McArthur
River. Treatment with HCl and HF is followed by pyrite removal under
both oxidizing (HNO 3 ) and reducing (LiAlH 4 ) conditions. The chemical
nature of the resulting kerogens is discussed.
