The TAURUS Fabry-Perot imaging interferometer's design, development and operation in the mapping of emission line source velocity fields are described. The instrument is designed to obtain seeing-limited spectral data over a field of up to 9 arcmin in diameter at the Cassegrain focus of a 4-m telescope, using a spectral resolving power value in the 210-10,000 range. TAURUS possesses numerous advantages over conventional grating spectrographs used in the study of extended object dynamics. The formalization and realization of techniques first undertaken in Taylor and Atherton's (1980) study of the galaxy M82 with TAURUS are described.
