The stars considered were first defined with respect to their characteristics as members of a special group by Joy (1945, 1949). They are found in regions which exhibit intense dust absorption properties. Their space density is relatively high. The stars must be considered as young. Their study can, therefore, provide important information concerning the early phases of stellar development. The general characteristics of the stars are discussed, taking into account stellar classification, spectral properties, and an interpretation of the spectra. Attention is also given to details regarding the stage of development reached by the stars.
