It is shown that IUE and X-ray observations of T Tauri stars can be explained by a model which takes the cooling and condensing of a moderately dense corona into account. This model includes two transition regions between coronal gas and cool gas: the usual zone between chromosphere and corona, and the region between corona and cool circumstellar gas. The variations with temperature of the transition region emission measures, as deduced from IUE observations of a few T Tauri stars, are compared to those of the computed models. Agreement is found for mass loss rates much lower than usually assumed for T Tauri stars.
