In searching for a solution to the solar neutrino problem, it is important that we have a high degree of confidence in the results of the various experiments. An accurate estimate of their uncertainties is crucial for determining the acceptability of the various models proposed to account for the solar neutrino deficit. The Homestake Solar Neutrino Detector, using the inverse beta reaction nue + 37Cl to ^ {37}Ar + e^-, has been monitoring the flux of solar neutrinos since 1970 and has demonstrated a remarkable degree of reliability during that time. There are four systematic parameters which are needed to convert an observed number of ^ {37}Ar atoms into a nu_ {rm e} flux: cross section, extraction efficiency, counting efficiency, and background production rate. A thorough review has been made of the systematic properties of the detector. All are well understood and have demonstrated a high degree of stability during the lifetime of the experiment. The systematic contribution to the uncertainty is approximately 6%; the present average value of the solar neutrino induced ^{37 }Ar production rate in the Homestake detector is 2.56+/-0.16 (stat.)+/-0.14 (sys)..
