Quasars: Emission Lines
Scientific paper
The observed results exhibit the fact that there are some systematic effects in QSOs spectra, such as: (a) the different emission lines give different redshifts; (b) high-ionization lines C IV λ1549, N V, C III λ1909 and possibly Lyα are systematically blue-shifted to a velocity of about 600 km s-1 with respect to low-ionization lines O I, Mg II λ2798 and the Balmer lines; (c) a systematic redshift of C III to C IV has also been found to correlate in a linear fashion with the redshift difference between the Mg II and C IV. Until now, these effects have not been understood. The motivation of this paper was to present a new mechanism to discuss these effects.
