The 830-870 nm spectral region, which includes the Ca II triplet lines, other metal lines, and molecular bands of TiO and CN, is computed for a grid of stellar parameters. The behavior of the so-called CaT feature as a function of stellar effective temperature, gravity and metallicity is studied and compared to previous work. The CaT feature turns out to be very sensitive to metallicity for M/H greater than -2.0; it is also, for the giant stars, sensitive to log g for M/H greater than -1.0. The strength of the CaT feature is insensitive to temperature for the dwarfs, showing some dependence on temperature for giants (log g below 2.5). Therefore, the CaT feature is, for a large range of stellar parameters, a function of metallicity and gravity, in this order of importance. For metal-rich cool giants, the CaT feature is a function of metallicity, gravity and temperature.
