Contrary to previous opinion, super-heavy elements can be produced in
the r-process in explosive stellar events. Calculations are based on
estimates of the fissionability of very neutron-rich superheavy nuclei
using currently accepted mass-law parameters. Certain consequences for
empirical cosmic ray abundance and galactic chronology are discussed.
