The present conference on coordinated polar region ionosphere and magnetosphere observations is divided into sections on ground-based and satellite upper atmosphere disturbance observations, rocketborne observations, and the Middle Atmosphere Project's work in Antarctica. Among the topics discused are Pc 1 and Pc 4 pulsations, the arrival direction of auroral hiss with respect to the location of the aurora observed at Syowa Station, Antarctica, chorus frequency variations observed by the ISIS satellites, the modes of pulsating auroras and related geomagnetic pulsations, and the characteristics of the inverted-V events observed by the KYOKKO satellite. Also considered are the possibility of deducing ionospheric and field-aligned currents from ground magnetic perturbations, ionization by keV electron precipitation in the auroral zone, the formation of noctilucent cloud partaicles in relation to the temperature distribution at the polar mesopause, the significance of the ion temperature vertical profile over the Antarctic, and HF Doppler measurements in the auroral ionosphere.
