The exact surface field for perfectly conducting spheres of increasing sizes is compared to the fields obtained according to Fresnel's laws or Fock's theory. The corresponding far scattered fields are studied by making use of the vectorial Kirchhoff integral relation. A new physical optics approximation based on Lorenz-Mie theory is then explained and applied to spheroids.
