Sulfate-rich soils were exposed by Spirit rover at nine locations around
Columbia Hills. The major cation of these sulfates appears reflecting
the degree of alterations of regional outcrops and local rocks.
Postexposure dehydration may have happened in the salty soils from
deeper depth at Tyrone.
