An exact solution of the Cauchy problem for equations of MHD waves in a homogeneous plasma in the case of sources of finite extent is obtained and analyzed. It is shown that the perpendicular and longitudinal components of a magnetoacoustic wave have different amplitude distributions with respect to the wave front: isotropic for the longitudinal component and substantially anisotropic for the perpendicular component. In the latter case, the direction identified coincides with the external magnetic field.
