The dependence of the radio-wave scattering angle in the near-solar plasma on the radial distance is examined. It is shown that the previously observed extended transition region of elevated scattering is preceded by a relatively narrow region in which the scattering is drastically reduced. This finding indicates a local decrease in the level of spatial electron-density fluctuations. The region of reduced scattering coincides with the zone of the largest positive velocity gradients of the solar wind.
