Earth Magnetosphere: Structure, Earth Magnetosphere: Solar Activity Cycles

Scientific paper

The spatial and temporal distribution of charged particles in the Earth's ring current was analyzed from September 1995 to September 1996 during the period of solar activity minimum. In this paper, the main focus is centered on the analysis of the ring current outer edge in the night-side hemisphere of the Earth's magnetosphere. The study is based on the data of the charge particle spectrometer SKA-2 and the plasma spectrometer PROMICS-3 obtained onboard the Tail Probe satellite. The ring current outer edge in a wide range of longitudes was found to be highly variable.
