The use of nondissipative dispersive hydrodynamics to analyze body motion in ionospheres or solar wind flows around planets is reviewed. Results obtained for the problem of unsteady flows in dispersive hydrodynamics are applied to the problem of arbitrary discontinuity evolution in plasma flows around bodies. The piston model of two-dimensional steady high-speed flow around a body is considered for both compression and rarefaction flows.
