From its inception, the Thermal Imaging Common Module (TICM) program envisioned the 'stretching' of this sensor suite's modules; these stretched modules have in due course yielded higher sensitivity, improved spatial resolution, alternative line standards, reduced size, multispectral versions, and most recently an all-digital version of the imager. Attention is given to TICM's development in the context of anamorphic optics, diffraction-limited telescopes, digital bandstores, the serial addition of detectors, 'miniscanner' and 'maxiscanner' modules, dual-waveband radiometry and imaging, digital signal processing, and high definition TV compatibility.
