The paper discusses how observations of NO2 absorption present in the spectrum of the twilight sky are used to measure NO2 in the stratosphere, and describes the results of several years of measurements made in Colorado. The observational method is described, followed by a discussion of the behavior of NO2 at midlatitude and a comparison with earlier measurements. The results are discussed in terms of the chemistry of stratospheric nitrogen oxides as presently understood, along with showing the effects of global-scale quasi-horizontal transport on the NO2 abundance over Colorado.
