The author discusses the possibilities for stimulating the turbulent boundary layer in the auroral ionosphere by periodic heating of the ionospheric plasma. He shows that two spatially separated transmitters with frequencies that differ by an amount nearly equal to one of the eigenfrequencies of the ionospheric Alfvén resonator may be used for efficient excitation of transverse Alfvén waves, forming a turbulent boundary layer at the inside edge of the magnetospheric convection zone.
