The Rosencwaig-Gersho theory of the photoacoustic effect is applied to simulate the PAS phase-shift of the surface reference sample carbon black. A layer thickness dependent PAS phase-response of carbon black for very thin layer thicknesses is calculated. First experimental results on various carbon black samples with different layer thicknesses confirm these simulations.
