Stellar Dynamics And Kinematics

Observations of the profile of the 2.3-μm CO 2-0 bandhead in the Galactic Center are discussed. These large-beam (20` or 1 pc) observations provide information on the integrated stellar velocity and velocity dispersion in the inner 10 pc of the Galaxy. There is evidence that the velocity dispersion dominates the rotational velocity at all positions within 5 pc of the Galactic Center, particularly in the inner regions. We also note a significant difference between the stellar velocities we measure and the gas velocities measured in previous studies.
