We request observing time on the Blanco + MOSAIC II to obtain u- band imaging data for the Blanco Cosmology Survey (BCS) fields. These data will supplement the existing BCS data to support stellar content studies of these areas. The u-band data are critical in separating F spectral type turn-off stars, BHB stars, and moderate redshift QSOs. These data will aid in detection of hot white dwarfs which may be used as calibration objects in later surveys which include the BCS area (specifically DES and LSST). Part of this effort will be an extensive calibration program to completely tie the u-band data to the existing griz data collected during the NOAO Surveys Program (Joe Mohr, UIUC, PI). We also request time on the SMARTS-0.9m in order to establish a set of ``Mosaic-II-sized'' local standard fields within the BCS footprint and thus ``off-load'' calibration tasks from the Blanco. We estimate that transferring calibration tasks will improve our observing efficiency on the Blanco by 10-15%.
