We briefly examine recent major progress in the domain of stellar physics closely linked to a better understanding of fundamental physics (pressure ionization of dense matter, physics of dense plasmas, radiation-matter interaction). This progress led to an accurate description of the properties of dense stellar objects, neutron stars, white dwarfs, low-mass stars and substellar objects such as brown dwarfs and exoplanets. We examine the impact of this better understanding of stellar physics on galactic physics and cosmology: mass functions, census of baryonic matter, formation of primordial stars.
