The Large Hadron Collider LHC will start operating, at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland in 2007. CMS is one of the two general purpose detectors that will collect data at the LHC. A brief overview of the CMS detector is given, followed by the status of the construction, installation and commissioning. Then a quick tour on what could be the first measurements and search results at the LHC will be given.
