A preliminary study of simultaneous scintillation measurements at VHF and GHz recently made at Huancayo, Peru, using transmissions from the MARISAT satellite is reported. It is shown that GHz scintillations occur when VHF scintillation undergoes an explosive growth within a time scale of the order of a few minutes. In the fully developed condition, VHF scintillation is located in the multiple scatter domain whereas at GHz weak scatter condition prevails. A study of the amplitude distribution, power spectrum and autocorrelation function of scintillations at VHF and GHz is carried out to explore the type of signal statistics in the weak and multiple scatter regimes.
