Sudden changes in the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) and solar wind conditions can trigger a variety of magnetospheric ultra-low frequency (ULF) pulsations. The pulsations are not only a response to these transients, but also play an important role in the transfer of energy from the solar wind into and throughout the coupled magnetosphere-ionosphere system. Over the years a number of interplanetary drivers, generating mechanisms, and transmission mechanisms for the pulsations have been identified, but the relative importance of each remains an open question. While several extensive studies of the ground magnetic field component of ULF pulsations have been conducted, similar studies of the electric field component are relatively rare. The recent expansion of the Super Dual Auroral Radar Network (SuperDARN) to high and middle latitudes in both hemispheres provides new opportunities to carry out a comprehensive examination of the impulse response of the ionospheric electric field to solar wind and IMF transients. In this presentation we discuss results obtained from a statistical analysis of SuperDARN-observed ULF pulsations organized by upstream solar wind and IMF parameters.
