A method involving the expansion of experimental data fields in a series
of natural orthogonal functions is used to develop a statistical model
of median values of various ionospheric parameters. Also obtained is a
model for predicting diurnal values of f0F2 (the critical frequency of
the F2-layer) from a statistical analysis of experimental data.
