The static deformation of an orthotropic multilayered elastic medium as a result of strip-loadings is studied. The transfer matrix approach is used to find the displacements and stresses at any point of the medium. Both plane strain and antiplane strain cases are discussed in detail. Two kinds of problems are considered; first, in which the multilayered medium lies on an elastic half-space with which it is in welded contact, and, second, in which the multilayered medium lies on a rigid base. The procedure developed is straightforward, convenient for numerical computation and avoids the complicated nature of the problem.
