The expressions for the displacements caused by a point displacement dislocation in a two-phase medium are integrated analytically to obtain the displacement field produced by a finite rectangular fault in a homogeneous, isotropic, elastic half-space in welded contact with another homogeneous, isotropic, elastic half-space. The results are valid for arbitrary values of the Poisson's ratio of the two media and for arbitrary observer locations. The variation of the displacement field with the distance from the interface as well as with the distance from the fault is studied numerically. The displacement field in two welded half-spaces is compared with the corresponding field in a half-space and in an infinite medium. Contour maps showing the deformation of the medium around a rectangular strike-slip fault are also presented.
