A review and revaluation of calcite solubility measurements in pure water indicates that the activity product of calcite at 25°C and 1 atm pressure is 10 -8.40±0.02 . G f 0 for Ca 2+ (aq) has been revaluated as -132,350 ± 250 cal gfw -1 . Based on the above data and G f 0 = -126,170 ± 70 cal gfw -1 for CO 3 2- (aq), G f 0 for calcite is -269,980 ± 260 cal gfw -1 . The study includes a detailed appraisal of the various errors relating to the solubility measurements and their interpretation.
