Interrelationships were sought from simultaneously recorded data from a sudden storm commencement (SSC) event and associated Psc 4-5 pulsations recorded by the GEOS 2 spacecraft and ground-based magnetometers. The SSC occurred on Mar. 22, 1979 and was preceded by a preimpulse that appeared on ground instrumentation 5 sec before the event onset. About 2 sec delay was present between the registration of the preimpulse and the impulse at a series of stations in Scandinavia. The arrival of the main pulsations was recorded at the same time both on the ground and at the geosynchronous orbit level. The precursor signal could have been electron precipitation that changed the ionospheric conductivity locally. Damped magnetic pulsations with periods of 160 and 50 sec were produced by the main impulse. The data also contained indications of the presence of the first three harmonics of the Psc event, including a recording of a period of 80 sec that could have been associated with a resonant interaction of the second harmonic with bounding protons.
