Clinopyroxenes in the metamorphic alpine peridotites from Ronda, Béni Bouchera, Lanzo and Othris have 87 Sr / 86 Sr ratios in the range of 0.70228 - 0.70370, similar to ocean ridge tholeiitic rock. Insofar as these lherzolites represent mantle sources, the present data allows simple evolutionary models relating basalt genesis and alpine peridotite. The highly radiogenic Sr reported in many whole rock alpine peridotites may be due to contamination in olivine and thus, earlier models that deny a simple relationship between alpine peridotite and the oceanic gabbros and basalts need a re-evaluation.
