The phenomenon of spontaneous compactification has been discovered previously in the case of gravitation coupled to SO(3) gauge fields and for scalar fields. Here it is shown that it exists in arbitrary space-time dimensions when the gauge group is SO(N). The method used here, is applied also to recover the known magnetic monopole (SO(3)) and instanton (SO(4)) solutions.
