It is argued that the coupled Yang-Mills supergravity theory in ten dimensions naturally implies spacetimes having the forms t x M exp 3 x M exp 6, where M exp 6 is a compact homogeneous space with a nonintegrable complex structure. It is suggested that dimensional reduction of an E sub 8 Yang-Mills theory using Sp(4)SU(2) x U(1) as the space of extra dimensions may provide a basis for the understanding of elementary particle physics.
