We observed the bright supernova candidate in NGC 4790 (Howerton et al. ATEL #3967) with the Mount Hopkins FLWO 1.5m telescope and the FAST spectrograph on Mar 15 06:56 UT. We find that the supernova most closely resembles a Type Ib supernova with prominent helium features. Using SNID we find best matches to SN1998dt and SN2005bf around maximum light.
