We propose to obtain spectrophotometry for a sample of 40 LMC star clusters of different ages to provide a means to accurately calibrate their integrated spectral properties in terms of age and metallicity. Our sample of 40 clusters have previously established ages and metallicities from modern, stellar, color-magnitude diagrams and the analysis of individual red giants spectra. This calibration effort is essential for improving studies of unresolved, extragalactic stellar populations. Integrated spectroscopy of stellar clusters is particularly important to obtain ages and metallicities of star clusters in distant galaxies, to determine their star formation and chemical enrichment history.
